Going glass..
Looking at getting a glass section with 3 bubble plates.
Reason for doing so is wanting to get more flavor than my reflux column. Am I wasting my time? Should I be doing 2 runs just in a pot still mode or will 3 bubble plates give a higher % with a single run whilst still letting me bring over the flavor of grains? Thinking mainly ujssm etc.
What does the crowd recommend before committing to the 3 plate glass section?

Re: Going glass..
Let me answer for some people;
Chugalug - if you want flavour use a pot still and run it twice.
P3 - ? (I don't know what he reckons)
Wolfric - Plates are all good
Tuf720 - Fuck man, you wouldn't beleive the fuckin taste I get out of all my fuckin plates.
Salty - Fuck off, I am working on my aging process.
Teddysad - I have four plates and they do a terrific job.
SP (The KIng) - I am too lazy to even think about an answer.
Err there are others but I am tired. I think the point is, as always in this sport, sport, you will most usually get a bunch of conflicting ideas by different people who run what they think is best for them. I don't think there is any real answer apart from the subjective.

Copper. You forgot the copper.
Re: Going glass..
I have never made a ujssm so I will stay on the fence sipping flavoursome vodka.

Mmm bubble plates.
Seems there is a lot of different ways to make bubble plates.

Re: Going glass..
I am over plates. They are going the way of the full suspension mountain bike overly complcated for a small gain in performance... everyone wants a single speed bike for christmas.
Pot stills are in. Plates are out.

We have a single speed (fixie) here in the garage. It was fun for a while but no one rides it any more cos the novelty soon wore off.

See I forgot this one. To be fair I didn't know.
Re: Going glass..
If you want plates- get them.
Dont forget to budget for a decent size Reflux condenser to keep the plates loaded.
Here is a gratuitous photo of my plated column.

Re: Going glass..
That looks very awesome, sort of a retro steampunk look about it, just needs a few large gears and a large pressure dial and it would be a masterpiece.

Awesome well if it let's a bit of flavor through compared to the reflux set up I've got it think I might just have to dabble in the world of pretty plates in glass. Suppose I better save some pennies and see how the funds look on the other side of Xmas. Will run what I've got as a pot until then I suppose

APD is picking round the edge.
NZ has the best environment for talented builders but for some reason schmuks keep looking abroad.

The gin still is running great, as well as the boiler. Thumbs up for Inglishills work also.
If you are thinking of going offshore for Custom work
http://coppercustomstillcomponents.com.au/wordpress/ also has a big thumbs up from me.
Cheers Quiet

Re: Going glass..
Sorry guys been a while and still have my ujssm sitting there. Hopefully Sunday I'll be able to run the still again. May just run it without any reflux to see how that turns out. I'm all for supporting locals but unfortunately with 5 kids at home and not a huge amount of cash to spare, the overseas markets are just too competitive in some areas.. Will admit to using aliexpress a bit..

Re: Going glass..
Thats a steal at $1500, if only I had room for it/to hide it from the wife
Re: Going glass..
I know i would buy it my self for the tees, caps and neutral section to keep and flog off the boiler, parrot and RC separately and then sell the leftovers as a pot still head and still make a massive profit.
Except i have no money.
